Route Options

In May 2021, 3 Route Options were proposed and consulted on by the public. The feedback from this consultation can be seen here

We have developed three possible routes to the Joint Campus. Each option has pros and cons that you can’t see on the plans. Although we are at an early stage in the process, here’s a simple comparison from what we know so far.

The 3 Route Options can be seen below:

Option Directness of route to Joint Campus Likely time to implement Scale of challenges Likely scale of cost
1 ✓✓✓ 12-18 months * £
2 ✓✓ 3 years ** £££
3 5-10 years *** £££

None of the options will be simple to implement, but some will be more challenging than others. Option 3 is more challenging than option 2, and option 1 is the least challenging.

At this early stage, there are still things we don’t know about each option. For example:

  • Option 1 - building a bridge across the burn between the Library and the old primary school site.
  • Option 2 - getting permission to build crossings over the A83 trunk road.
  • Option 3 - how often the route would need to close because of flooding.

You can see more detailed plans of each option below.

Please explore the plan for each option by zooming in and moving around. The route for that option is marked by a coloured line. Click on the markers and highlighted shapes for more information about specific parts of the route. If you are not sure what 'rain gardens', 'raised table' and 'quietways' are, please click on those links to see examples and explanations.

Then please answer the questions beneath each option to tell us how much it would encourage you to walk, cycle and wheel more.
